| | | | | El pueblo de Cornudella, en la parte nororiental de la comarca, se ensancha en la falda de la Serra Major de Montsant, en el valle del río Siurana, con los despeñaderos de la Gritella por la otra parte. La historia de la villa se remonta al neolítico, aunque no será hasta el siglo XII que el Conde de Barcelona le otorgará la carta de población.
El patrimonio natural, paisajístico y cultural se complementan de una forma amplia en nuestro territorio. La bodega cooperativa modernista, obra de César Martinell, discípulo de Gaudí, es un ejemplo remarcable. Podéis encontrar productos de la tierra como son el vino de la DO Montsant, por descontado, y el aceite de la DO Siurana, sin olvidar los frutos secos.
Cornudella es un centro de escalada imprescindible para los aficionados a este deporte que, aquí, tienen posibilidades varias y atractivas.
SIURANA
La imagen del pueblo de Siurana, junto al despeñadero, es singular, del mismo modo que lo es la leyenda del salto de la reina mora, que antes de rendirse a las tropas cristianas prefirió tirarse con su caballo al vacío que, en un extremo del promontorio, se abre hacia el río del mismo nombre. Las puestas de sol desde Siurana merecen una visita. Como también merecen un paseo sus caminos y sus calles.
ALBARCA
Es el pueblo más pequeño de la comarca del Priorat, en un extremo de la sierra de Montsant, desde donde domina el valle de Cornudella y Ulldemolins. El núcleo de población se mantiene ejemplarmente conservado, y en él se respira calma y quietud. Desde Albarca podéis emprender variadas excursiones hacia la Serra Major.
SANT JOAN DEL CODOLAR
La ermita está enclavada al pie del Montsant, a unos tres kilómetros del pueblo, y rodeada de cipreses. Debe el nombre de Codolar a los "còdols" (guijarros) que, desprendidos de la montaña rocosa, rodean la ermita hasta el extremo de que algunas rocas le sirven de paredes o tejado.
SANTA MARIA DE MONTSANT
La ermita está situada a poco más de mil metros de altitud, teniendo sus orígenes en fundaciones eremíticas del siglo XII. Pertenece al término parroquial de Albarca.
Recorrido por la vertiente sur de la sierra de Montsant aconsejado para personas que quieren disfrutar de la contemplación del paisaje y tomar magníficas fotografías.
La ermita de Sant Joan del Codolar será el punto de partida y de llegada de un circuito que nos permitirá reseguir los riscos que la rodean. En el tramo ascendente se sigue uno de los tradicionales caminos de acceso a la Serra Major. Seguidamente podremos apreciar, desde lo alto, la potencia de los desfiladeros de Sant Joan y alcanzar el punto más alto de la sierra, la Roca Corbatera (1163 m).
Para regresar seguiremos, en buena medida, el camino de la Llisera, uno de los más espectaculares que recorre, talmente como una curva de nivel, la falda de la montaña por encima mismo de un estrato de roca a lo largo de varios kilómetros.
Esta excursión es una matinal apta para todo tipo de caminantes, aunque algunas partes del recorrido puedan tener una cierta dificultad para aquéllos poco dados a andar por la montaña.
Se puede llevar a cabo en cualquier época del año. Si se quiere emprender en verano, es aconsejable evitar las horas de máxima insolación. En el estío, se puede empezar a primera hora de la mañana o iniciar la excursión a partir de media tarde. No debería realizarse con niebla. Para visitar la cueva de la Cova Santa se precisa de linterna. Hay que tener precuación si las rocas están mojadas.

| | | | | | | The town of Cornudella, in the north-west of the Priorat, lies at the foot of the Serra Major, the main ridge of the Montsant, in the valley of the Siurana river, overlooked from the other side by the cliffs of La Gritella. Cornudella´s history goes back to Neolithic times, though it received its charter from the count of Barcelona only in the 12th century.
Our region boasts a rich combination of natural, landscape and cultural heritage. The Art Nouveau-style co-operative wine cellar, designed by Cèsar Martinell, is an outstanding example of this. Here you will find local produce, including D.O. Montsant wine, D.O. Siurana olive oil and nuts.
Cornudella as a rock climbing area is an essential visit for enthusiasts of the sport, with a wealth of possibilities at all levels.
SIURANA
The view of this village, perched at the top of its cliffs, is simply unique. Also unique is the story of the Moorish queen who, rather than give herself up to the besieging Christian troops, chose to fling herself on horseback into the abyss near the end of the rocky promontory upon which Siurana stands, below which runs the river of the same name. The sunset seen from Siurana is worth the visit, as is a walk through its narrow streets and around its footpaths.
ALBARCA
This is the smallest village in the Priorat, perched at one end of the Montsant and overlooking the valleys of Cornudella and Ulldemolins. The village is exceptionally well-preserved, a calm, quiet place. Albarca is the starting-off point for many walks on the Montsant.
SANT JOAN DEL CODOLAR
The chapel is situated at the foot of the Montsant, about three kilometres (two miles) from the village, surrounded by old cypress trees. The name "Codolar" comes from the rounded stones (in Catalan, "còdols") which, having come away from the mountain, lie all around the chapel, so much so that some of them were used to build its walls and roof.
SANTA MARIA DE MONTSANT
This chapel is located just over 1,000 metres (3,280 feet)up. Its origins lie with 12th-century hermits, and it belongs to the parish of Albarca.
A round route on the southern side of the Serra de Montsant, recommended for those who want to enjoy the landscape and take spectacular photographs.
The starting and finishing point is the chapel ofSant Joan de Codolar, allowing you to walk along the steep cliffs which overlook it. The way up follows one of the traditional paths to the Serra Major, the main ridge of the Montsant. From higher up you can appreciate the towering cliffs of Sant Joan and carry on to the mountain´s highest point, the Roca Corbatera (1163 m).
Much of the descent follows the Camí de la Llisera, a spectacular path which follows the contours of the lower slopes of the mountain over a single rock stratum for several kilometres.
This is a morning walk suitable for walkers of all levels, though some parts of the route might alarm people who are not used to walking in the mountains.
The route can be done at any time of year, though in summer it is advisable to avoid particularly sunny times. At this time of year it is best to set out early in the morning or later in the afternoon. It should not be attempted in foggy weather. To visit the cave known as the Cova Santa a torch is needed. Care should be taken if the rocks are wet.
