Situada a tan sólo 9 km. de la costa de Alicante y a 341 m de altitud Aigües es un destino diferente, de gran interés tanto por su enclave como por el sabor de una población rural cercana al mar en la que la combinación de vegetación, agua y temperatura hacen realidad el dicho popular “Aigües sin médico cura, aquí botica ni se nombra, bastan sus aires y sus aguas y de sus pinos su sombra.”
La historia y presente de Aigües está ligada a la existencia de yacimientos de aguas con propiedades medicinales y a la construcción en el siglo XVII de un balneario en el que las clases aristocráticas llegaban a tomar las aguas con propiedades medicinales.
Una extensa pinada enclavada en el Cabezo d’Or, con largas veredas tupidas de romero, tomillo y lavanda, salpicadas de bancos de piedra y miradores, invitan al descanso. En este paraje se encuentran la antigua Fuente de la Cogolla, con su gran mirador desde el que se divisa gran parte de la Costa Alicantina.
El nombre de Aigües ya aparece en 1179 en el Pacto de Cazorla firmado por Alfonso II de Aragón y Alfonso VIII de Castilla. En el siglo XVII se crea el título de Marqués de Bosch y el de Condes de Casa Rojas, que en la actualidad siguen conservando grandes terrenos y edificaciones de la población.
De gran importancia histórica son las ruinas de un pequeño castillo árabe situado a las afueras de la población y la torre cristiana del siglo XIV conocida como "Torre de Aigües", o la iglesia de San Francisco de Asís de 1755, con su retablo de Antonio Villanueva.
La localidad tiene gran tradición artística, y fue elegida como lugar de asentamiento de artistas de renombre como Agrasot, Ribes, Pepe Mas, Burguete, o Kwinkelenberg.
En la población se conservan bellas edificaciones como Villa Begoña, La Torreta o Villa Gonzalo y otras fincas con gran solera, como Vicálvaro, La Cava, Villa Salud o La Venteta, antigua venta recientemente restaurada y convertida en Posada Rural.

14 miles from Alicante, within the region of “Costa Blanca", 341 feet of high .Aigües is a special destination of great interest both for its location and for the attraction and activities. Its antique and craft fair every first Sunday of the month, and the concerts of music in the open air contribute to relax and take delight in this rural location near to the sea, in which the combination of natural vegetation, water and climate, brings to mind the popular saying "Aigues cures without doctors, here no pharmacy can be found, only its pure air, its waters and the shadow of its pine trees".
Some vestiges that prove the long lasting history of the village are the ruins of a little Arabic style castle located just outside the village as well as the Christian Tower known as “Torre de Aigues” (14th century) on a small hill dominating the village, built in a rectangle with natural stones, and presenting as decorative item metal leftovers mixed and integrated within the cemented joins. Worth seeing: the church built in honour of San Francisco de Asis acts as a priest since 1755 and provides a marvellous altar table from the 17th century painted by Antonio Villanueva.
An extensive pine forest is located in the Cabezo d'Or, with paths of rosemary, thyme and lavender, stone banks and viewpoints, inviting you to rest. In this place you will find the old Source of the Cogolla, with its wide viewpoint opened to a large part of the coast of Alicante; the stables of the Ciscar, and the chapel of Carmen.
Close by you'll discover important constructions, such as the Torreta or Villa Gonzalo, or La Venteta, the old inn recently restored and converted into a Cottage Hotel full of charm. The village has a large artistic tradition, since it was chosen as a place of settlement by artists of reputation like J P Kwinkelenberg.
