Snowshoeing is the best way to get started in winter mountaineering and get to know the real mountain. In Picos de Europa, we have countless routes for all levels.
Snowshoes do not require previous experience or special technique, just some considerations and tricks we will teach you. After a few hours, you will move with them with ease.

Activity details
We usually do the activity in the Eastern Massif of Los Picos de Europa, but it depends significantly on the weather and snow conditions.
We leave Llanes at 9.00 and make collections in Cabrales around 9.30.
We reached the Jito del Escarandi at about 1,300 meters above sea level.
First, we put on the Snowshoes, and we explain their use and how to progress with them on different terrains: flat, ascent and descent.
We take the Ándara mines track, an easy track with an ascending but gentle slope until we reach the Ándara Refuge. During the tour, we will make different stops, and we will explain the following contents:
– Choice of safe itineraries with Snowshoes
– Types of avalanches and how to identify them
– Types of snow and how to identify them
We stop to eat a picnic at the Refuge and enjoy the snowy landscape of the Picos de Europa.
After lunch, we can return through the Canal de Las Vacas, a wilder area where you can try Snowshoeing on more complicated terrain.

Do not forget
Mountain pants, boots, fleece, waterproof jacket, gloves, beanie, suncream, sunglasses and backpack.
Booking conditions
- The minimum number necessary to complete a tour is 4 clients. The tour company Rumbo a Picos reserves the right to cancel the tour if there are not a sufficient number of participants, up to 48 hours prior to the tour start date. In the event of such cancellation, participants shall be refunded 100% of the payments they have made to the tour company Rumbo a Picos. The refund shall be made by Bank Transfer to the client’s bank account within 7 days of the notified cancellation.
- In Picos de Europa, the weather is very changeable and rain is quite frequent. The activity will only be cancelled if the weather conditions are dangerous for the activity.

- The tour company Rumbo a Picos reserves the right to cancel the tour if there are not a sufficient number of participants up to 48 hours prior to the tour start date. In the event of such cancellation, participants shall be refunded 100% of the payments they have made to the tour company Rumbo a Picos.
