CAVING
Llanes (Asturias), Porrua
The cave of Vallina is one of the several caves that we can find in Llanes county, located in the tiny village of Porrua.

The singularity of this cave, apart from the fact that there are plenty of different formations as stalactites, stalagmites, gours, columns, angel wings etc., is that we can find very easily one kind of formation called eccentric stalactite which breaks the gravity laws.

The cave is about 1km long, at the entrance of the cave we have to crowl for like 5m but the rest of the cave we can walk standing.

On our way through the cave our guide will be explainig us the different formations, how they were formed, why, its value and singularity.

You will explore this fascinating subterranean world finding new formations on every step. Undoubtedly, ypu will experience a time travel, from the formation of the earth, the life of the prehistorical humans until our days, because this cave was used during the Spanish Civil War as a place to hide and as a bunker during the bombings.

Asturias is like a Gruyere cheese. It´s geology is mainly formed by limestone which is a very "soft" rock and it gets erosionated by the water very easily. Thanks to that Asturias is full of caves, wholes and different genuine formations.
