In 1998, H.H. Pope John Paul II converted Caravaca in Holy City giving it a Jubilee in perpetuity and every 7 years, being the fifth city in the world that has this privilege.
This enormous privilege, along with the grandeur of ancient rituals and festivities, make Caravaca de la Cruz a world heritage site. Caravaca is a very special location, the tradition of its history, the mystery of its devotion, and the charm of its people make it a modern, hospitable and very friendly small town of visitors and pilgrims, who come to contemplate the deep-rooted religious culture associated with the Vera Cruz.

Very devout characters as Santa Teresa de Jesus and San Juan de la Cruz, which visited 7 times the town of la Cruz, made foundations of direct and personal way, in addition to many others orders that also settled in Caravaca (Jesuits, Franciscans, Carmelites, Hyeronimites...), were precisely Jesuits and Franciscans great broadcasters of cult to the cross in Latin America. Another illustrious pilgrim was the King Fernando the Catholic who visited Caravaca in his way to Granada and knelt down on his face before the relic in 1488.
